Floor Levelling
Achieve a smooth, even surface with our expert floor levelling services—perfect for new installations or restoring uneven floors.
Floor Levelling is a preparatory process used to create a smooth, even base for flooring installation over timber subfloors. It involves correcting uneven surfaces caused by warped boards, structural settling, or wear over time. Methods can include sanding high spots, filling low areas with levelling compounds, or overlaying with plywood sheets. This process ensures a stable foundation, preventing future issues like creaking, gaps, or floor movement. Essential for achieving a professional finish, wooden floor levelling enhances the durability and appearance of any flooring laid on top, from hardwood to laminate or vinyl.

Concrete Levelling
At Gorilla Flooring, we provide professional floor levelling to ensure a smooth, even base for your new flooring. Whether you’re installing laminate, vinyl, engineered wood, or tile, proper subfloor preparation is essential for a flawless finish.
Our Floor Levelling Process Concrete
1. Inspection & Assessment
We begin by inspecting the subfloor to identify dips, humps, cracks, or uneven spots. This assessment helps determine the best levelling method based on the condition and type of subfloor (concrete or timber).
2. Preparation
The area is cleared of any existing flooring, debris, and dust. We also check for moisture issues or structural problems that could affect the levelling process. Any loose sections of the subfloor are secured.
3. Priming the Surface
A primer is applied to help the levelling compound bond properly to the subfloor, especially on porous or dusty surfaces.
4. Application of Levelling Compound
Depending on the situation, we use a self-levelling compound or screed to fill in low spots and create an even surface. The mixture is poured and spread evenly, allowing it to settle naturally and form a flat layer.
5. Drying & Curing
The compound must dry completely, which can take a few hours to a couple of days depending on the product used and room conditions. We allow proper curing time to ensure durability and prevent future movement.
6. Final Inspection
Once dry, we check the surface with a straightedge to confirm flatness and readiness for flooring installation. Minor touch-ups may be done if needed.
Why Floor Levelling Matters
A properly levelled subfloor is key to long-lasting, professional results. It prevents gaps, movement, and premature wear—giving your new flooring a stable and secure foundation.
Timber Floor Joist Levelling
Uneven timber joists can lead to creaky floors, dips, and poor finish quality. At Gorilla Flooring, we offer expert timber joist levelling to create a strong, stable base for your new flooring installation.
Our Timber Joist Levelling Process
1. Initial Assessment
We begin by inspecting the existing floor structure to identify any sagging, warping, or uneven joists.
2. Floorboard Removal
If needed, we carefully remove floorboards to gain full access to the joists, ensuring minimal damage to surrounding areas.
3. Joist Inspection & Repairs
Damaged or rotten joists are repaired or replaced. We check for structural soundness and correct spacing to meet building standards.
4. Levelling the Joists
We level the joists using various techniques—this may include planing high spots, packing low areas with shims, or installing new noggins and sister joists where necessary.
5. Reinforcement (if required)
In cases where additional strength is needed, we reinforce joists with timber or steel brackets for added stability.
6. Reinstalling the Floorboards
Once the joists are level and secure, we reinstall or replace the floorboards, leaving a smooth and even surface ready for flooring.
Why It Matters
Level timber joists are essential for both the longevity and appearance of your flooring. They eliminate bounce, reduce noise, and prevent damage to your floor over time.
FAQ
WHAT IS THE PRICE TO LEVEL MY SUBFLOOR?
This depends of your subfloor is made from concrete or it is wooden. The cost of floor joist levelling can vary depending on rooms shape and size as well as thickness and width of floor joists. State of subfloor joists matter, because they might be rotten or warped which would require installation of new joists with joists hangers. Sister joists can be applied if floor joists are not rotten. Usually installation of plywood on top of current floorboards might be enough which reduces price of installation or as alternative 18mm plywood or chipboard can be installed.
Concrete is levelled using self levelling compound and price depends on thickness of self levelling required as well as size of the room or house. When self levelling is done it is usually applied to the whole house and not just one area which raises the cost.
As you can see price varies dramatically and it is hard to tell without on site assessment which can be done by our specialist. To book for a quote Click Here
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY FLOORS ARE UNVEVEN?
• Visible dips or slopes. If a ball likes to roll to the same corner every time, the floor is trying to tell you something.
• Doors that stick or won’t close smoothly. When the frame shifts, the door feels it first.
• Gaps under skirting boards. These thin shadows often reveal a floor that isn’t sitting evenly.
• Furniture that wobbles on every side. If every chair becomes a rocking chair, the surface isn’t level.
• Creaks, bounce, or a soft “give” underfoot. Movement under your steps can point to joist issues below.
DO I NEED TO REMOVE MY EXISTING FLOORING BEFORE LEVELLING CAN START?
In most cases, yes. Existing flooring usually needs to come up before levelling begins so the team can see the subfloor or joists clearly and correct the problem at its source. Trying to level over old flooring often hides issues, traps moisture, or keeps the new surface from bonding properly.
That said, there are a few situations where certain types of floors can stay in place, but it depends on their condition, thickness, and how uneven the area is. A quick inspection will show whether your current flooring can stay or if removing it will give the best long-term result.
HOW LONG DOES A TYPICAL SUBFLOOR LEVELING PROJECT TAKE?
As always it depends on your subfloor. Concrete subfloor can be levelled within 1-2 days, but it depends if furniture have been removed or is skirtings and flooring has been removed, if not this takes longer.
Floor joists levelling can be laborious process which can takes up to 3 days per room. This depends on many factors and can be known only after initial assessment click here to book now
